What Is Spelling Bee?

The Spelling Bee puzzle was popularized by The New York Times, which has published a daily version since 2014. The classic format gives players seven letters arranged in a honeycomb — one letter in the center, six surrounding it. Every valid word must be at least four letters long, can reuse letters as many times as needed, and must always include the center letter. Words using all seven letters are called pangrams and earn bonus points.

Our Spelling Bee Solver instantly finds every valid answer for any set of seven letters you enter. It highlights pangrams in gold so you can spot the most impressive words first. Whether you're stuck on your daily puzzle or just exploring what's possible with a given set, our solver covers the complete dictionary.

How to Use This Solver

  1. Enter all seven letters in the All Letters field (no spaces needed).
  2. Type the single center letter in the smaller box on the right.
  3. Click Find Words and results appear grouped by length.
  4. Pangrams — words using every one of the seven letters — are highlighted in gold.
  5. Copy any word to verify it in your official puzzle app.

Example

Letters: A C D E I L T · Center: A Words: DETAIL, DIALECT, CITADEL (pangram!), TIDAL, LACED…

Tips & Strategies

  • Find the pangram first: Pangrams always use every letter once — scan for the longest words and check each one.
  • Try common suffixes: -ING, -ED, -TION, -LY dramatically expand your word count with the right letters.
  • Plurals count: If LAKE is valid, LAKES often is too — always try adding S.
  • Work length down: Start with 7-letter words and work toward the 4-letter minimum threshold.
  • Center letter first: Build every attempt around the mandatory center letter to avoid wasted guesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Can I reuse letters?

Yes! Unlike some word games, Spelling Bee allows letters to appear multiple times in a single word. So with letters A C D E I L T you could use A twice in ACETALDEHYDE if it were in the dictionary.

❓ What is a pangram?

A pangram is a word that uses all seven of the given letters at least once. In the NYT Spelling Bee, finding the pangram awards extra points and is often the hardest word in the puzzle.

❓ Why might my word not appear in the official game?

The NYT Spelling Bee uses a curated word list that excludes proper nouns, obscure technical terms, and offensive words. Our solver uses a standard English dictionary which may include or exclude different words.
