Wordle
Guess the 5-letter word in 6 tries!
About the Wordle Game
Wordle was built in October 2021 by Josh Wardle, a Brooklyn-based software engineer, as a personal gift for his word-puzzle-loving partner Palak Shah. After sharing it with friends and family, he released it publicly — and within weeks it spread virally. From 90 daily players in November 2021, it exploded to 300,000 by January 2022. The New York Times acquired it for a reportedseven-figure sum shortly after.
The game's genius lies in its simplicity: one puzzle per day, shared by everyone, with a clear visual feedback system using coloured tiles. The shareable grid of emoji squares — without spoiling the answer — drove massive social media adoption. Our version lets you play unlimited games with new words every time.
How to Play Wordle
The Rules
- Guess a valid 5-letter English word.
- After each guess, tiles change colour.
- 🟩 Green = right letter, right spot.
- 🟨 Yellow = right letter, wrong spot.
- ⬛ Gray = letter not in the word.
- Solve in 6 guesses or fewer to win!
Controls
- Type letters on your keyboard or click the on-screen keyboard.
- Press Enter to submit a guess.
- Press Backspace / ⌫ to delete a letter.
- The keyboard colours update to track used letters.
- Only valid dictionary words are accepted.
Winning Strategies
- Choose a powerful opener. CRANE, STARE, AUDIO, or RAISE cover the most common letters and give maximum information on the first guess.
- Maximise information per guess. Your second guess should test as many new letters as possible — not repeat ones you already know.
- Use yellow letters wisely. A yellow letter must appear in the word — just not in the position you placed it. Try it in every other position.
- Think about word patterns. Many 5-letter words follow patterns like _IGHT, _OUND, _ANCE. Recognising these speeds up solving.
- Don't waste guesses. Never guess a word containing a confirmed gray letter — you're guaranteed to lose a turn.
