Advanced Scrabble Strategies

Chase the Bingo (+50 points). Playing all 7 tiles in one turn earns a 50-point bonus. Keep an S, ER, ING, or ED on your rack to build towards 7-letter words.
Hoard S tiles and blanks. S tiles enable plurals and verb forms anywhere on the board; blank tiles substitute any letter. Never waste them on small words.
Exploit premium squares. Triple Word Score (TWS) squares can multiply a single play by 3× — or 9× if you cover two TWS squares with one word.
Block your opponent. Avoid playing adjacent to a TWS square unless you can use it yourself. Keeping the board "tight" limits opponent scoring opportunities.
Know the two-letter words. QI, ZA, XI, JO, KA, and dozens of others are valid in tournament Scrabble and create surprising scoring opportunities.

❓ What is a "bingo" in Scrabble?

A bingo is when you play all seven tiles from your rack in a single turn, earning a 50-point bonus on top of the word's face value. Top players aim for a bingo every 5–7 turns.

❓ Are blank tiles worth any points?

No — blank tiles score 0 points regardless of which letter they represent. Their value is flexibility: they let you complete high-scoring words you couldn't form otherwise.

❓ What is the highest possible Scrabble score in one turn?

The theoretical maximum single-turn score is 1,778 points (OXYPHENBUTAZONE covering two Triple Word Scores). In competitive play, scores above 100 points in one turn are exceptional.
