What Is Dordle?
Dordle is a word puzzle game where you solve two Wordle puzzles simultaneously using the same set of guesses. Every word you enter is checked against both secret words at once — giving you colored feedback on two separate boards. You get 7 guesses to figure out both 5-letter words (compared to Wordle's 6 guesses for one).
Dordle was created by Guilherme Töws in January 2022 as a "double Wordle" challenge. It immediately gained a following among Wordle fans who wanted more complexity. The game tests your ability to track two independent deduction chains simultaneously — a significantly harder cognitive task than solving one Wordle alone.
How to Play Dordle
Basic Rules
- Two secret 5-letter words are chosen at the start of each game.
- You have 7 guesses total — shared between both boards.
- Each guess applies to both boards simultaneously.
- Color-coded feedback: 🟩 correct position, 🟨 wrong position, ⬛ not in word.
- Win by solving both words before using all 7 guesses.
Keyboard Color Coding
The on-screen keyboard shows the best state across both boards for each key. If a letter is green (correct) in Board 1, the key shows green even if it's gray in Board 2. This gives you the most optimistic view of your confirmed letter placements.
Dordle Strategy Tips
Information-First Opening
Your first 2-3 guesses should maximize information across the alphabet. Unlike regular Wordle where you might get lucky early, in Dordle you need to build a complete letter map before committing to guesses for either specific word. Classic strong openers: CRANE, STALE, MIGHT — cover 15 of the most common English letters.
Track Boards Independently
After your opening guesses, mentally (or on paper) separate the clues for each board. A yellow letter in Board 1 tells you something about Word 1; it tells you nothing about Word 2. Keep two separate mental models as you work toward each solution.
Prioritize the Harder Board
If one word is nearly solved (only one possible answer) and the other has many possibilities, focus your guesses on the harder board. You can often "sacrifice" guesses toward a harder board confident that a later guess will confirm the easier one. Don't celebrate prematurely — solving Board 1 in guess 4 doesn't help if Board 2 is still wide open with 3 guesses left.

❓ Do I need to solve Board 1 before Board 2?
No — you can solve them in any order or solve both at the same time. The boards are completely independent in terms of their secret words, but your guesses are shared.
❓ What happens if I solve one board but not the other?
The solved board shows a green "Done" indicator and stops updating. Your remaining guesses apply only to feedback purposes for the unsolved board. You must solve both to win.
❓ Are both words from the same word list as Wordle?
Yes — both words are drawn from the same 5-letter English word list (72,000+ words) used by our Wordle game, with validation ensuring both guesses and targets are real dictionary words.
❓ Can both words be the same?
No — we ensure the two target words are always different. If the random selection returns duplicates, we substitute the second word with a fallback to guarantee variety.
